The tin description is very accurate, so I won't reproduce it here. I would usually smoke a range of English/Balkan blends, enjoying everything from light to Nightcap. This is my first experience of a Plug tobacco, although I have smoked Cakes and lots of Flake. I'm also not over familar with Kentuky DF, although have smoked quite a lot of St Bruno over the years and KY is one of the tobaccos you will experience in that blend. Neeedless to say JKP is on a different plain of wonderfulness to St B. The plug is a lot of fun to prepare and offers some interesting variations in taste and smoking experience. This particular instance does fall apart a little and takes a bit of care and effort in order to cut across the grain or layers. But I don't think this causes too much of a problem. Whether cut & rubbed into very fine shag or cube cut this is a winner. It is a very well behaved blend, no hints of bitterness or harshness at all, with the only strange exception to this being on charring or 1st true light. After that, even on re-lights or having been left for a short while, it is consistently rich yet mellow in its subtly spicey earthiness. Before trying this I was expecting something a little more overwhelming and challenging. I am glad to say my experience was very different. I have been smoking lots of this throuhg out the day. It is very moreish and never becomes either boringly routine nor too much after just one small bowl. I like to smoke this in big bowls. It remains deliciously satisfying to the end. Outdoors in a cube cut it burns cool and slow; perfect for slowly savouring whilst walking on Dartmoor. Sat at home a fine shag cut burns well. The rich and slightly spicy Kentuck leaf reminds me a little of the wonderful cigar wrapper leaf in GLP's Key Largo. JKP has joined KL in my pantheon of all time favourites

Love at First Light!

One Charring flame + One light * large bowl Danish pipe = two hours of sheer delight. It must be the dark Kentucky that gives this one so much character. From opening the tin to carving some bits off, the terrific aroma made my mouth water. The visual delight is there also. The layers of black, brown and golden pull the eye to them with terrific promise. This is a smoking experience to savour. Well, it did take one relight, toward the bottom of the bowl. Then it finished clean, completely burned white ash, no wasted dottle. The aroma from the pipe bowl itself turned rich and nutty with perhaps a touch of sweet plums. The after taste is pleasant and lingering. I'll be ordering this one again and again. I am a Latakia lover, so this stuff is an exception for me. It has the enjoyment I get from a good English mixture but it's not. I just love this stuff. If you like Virginias, and don't miss Perique, this is worth a try. If you're a Latakia addict like me, this will make a pleasant change. The heavy solid plug itself says something about the character of this tobacco. It's a good solid foundation, weighty with pleasures for the nose and the mouth. I can't wait to fill my pipe again!
