This is University Flake turned up to 11. Notes of black strong coffee, dark dried fruit, a hint of leather. Subtle but rich and complex without any element overpowering the others. Slightly sweet but there is a detectable oriental undertone which is just barely present. Irish Flake is the maduro cigar of flakes. Nicotine content is supposed to be high but it’s nothing close to the Gawith ropes (the only pipe tobaccos ever to make me queasy), so I can’t really place it accurately on a chart. Burns cool with zero bite and smokes best, like most flakes, when it’s just moist enough not to crunch. I fully rub it out and enjoy in a canadian, and despite me probably smoking it too fast, delivers a cool smoke to the end.
